The Grand Strand
The Grand Strand is comprised of a sixty mile stretch of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. It ranges from Little River all the way down to Georgetown and encompasses all the towns
in between including Murrells Inlet, Surfside Beach, Garden City, North Myrtle Beach and, of course, Myrtle Beach. Along the Grand Strand, you’ll find an affordable beach town that offers solitude and tranquility.
However, if you want to be ‘the life of the party,’ Myrtle Beach is the place to be – you can be and enjoy always having something to do. No shortage of entertainment, sports venues, water activities, shopping and dining – in other words, something for everyone.
Why is it called Myrtle Beach?
Around 1900, a contest was held to name the area, and a local suggested honoring the locally abundant shrub, the southern wax myrtle (Myrica cerifera). The Withers post office changed its name to “Myrtle Beach” soon afterward.
