Time

“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of” – Benjamin Franklin

Of all things in this world considered valuable, the most valuable of them is time.  It’s a commodity that’s as perishable as it is equally distributed.  We all get the same amount every day of our lives…that’s 24 hours, 1440 minutes, or 86,400 seconds a day.  The average life expectancy in the USA is almost 79 years old, so those of us fortunate to avoid catastrophe will probably be here for quite a while.  When we think of time in that context, it seems abundant.

In reality, time is not a infinite resource, and it has a way of quietly slipping by while we aren’t looking.  It always seems to be in short supply, and when it eventually begins running out, we wish we had more.  Ask those who are getting older, and without exception they will extol the virtues of valuing the years we have and beg their younger counterparts to cherish every moment.  Tragically there are those who have regrets about their time spent and the things they “should have done”.  They’ve set aside their dreams and worked a job they didn’t like in a place that they didn’t want to be.  Ask them about the value of time and they will tell you to seize the moment.  Ask those who are facing tragic illness or the loss of a loved one about time, and they will tell you just how precious few moments we all have.  The truth is that time is indeed precious and not something to spend errantly, no matter how old or young you are.  Time can’t be made, can’t be bought, and there’s no savings account to put yesterday’s unused time in.  Don’t waste a moment more of it, not in a job that you don’t like, not in a place that you don’t want to be, and not with circumstances that hold you back from being happy and the best version of you.  Do you want a change?  The time to start is now.
